Our album of the day for 25 May is The Native’s EP Looking Back, released in 2023.
The Native accrue a massive 186,599 monthly listeners on spotify and have a relaxing, heartfelt indie sound that accompanies lead singer Charlie Noordeweir’s voice in a near perfect way. 2022 releases Blindside, Changes and Looking Back open the album, setting an emotive tone which carries through the remaining tunes. The five piece band, originally from Plymouth are well travelled having previously played overseas in the USA and will be playing abroad in Germany and Holland in June 2024.
The EP includes a nod to their travels with a live performance of one of their earlier tunes, Time, performed in Berlin. The Songbird Music Platform have previously compared The Native to an early Sam Fender in their sound. It is clear where the Indie group get their inspirations, covering Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams and Oasis classic Half the world away in the 7th and 9th tracks of the EP.
Just over half an hour, Feedback recommends the EP for fans of guitar / indie music that makes you think a bit.
