Our Album of the Day for the 20th of May is the marvellous Edbl with Edbl & Friends – Jackson Mathod.
Edbl, real name Ed Black, is a Chester native whose dreamy guitar playing breathes life into low-fi coffee shop beats. Perfect for easing you into your week, this album can roll with the punches before upping the tempo to bridge the gap between half asleep and the throws of everyday working life.
Released in 2023, this album is the latest in a long line of collaborations for Edbl and shows off the creator’s prowess in Jazz, Hip-Hop and R&B circles, this time spearheaded by vocalist and instrumentalist Jackson Mathod. The record makes great use of soulful drumming and floaty brass to create an imaginative soundtrack to the metropolitan London life that Edbl himself now lives.
The highlight of this record is undoubtedly Temperature High, a collaboration with Sophie Faith which features irresistibly rhythmic clicks, thumps, beats, claps and stomps in a percussion masterpiece that is rounded off by beautifully matched vocals.
